My third day in Paris was a day of iconic landmarks, historic streets, beautiful architecture—and, naturally, French fries.

I began the day at the Eiffel Tower, one of those Paris sights that somehow feels familiar even when you’re seeing it in person for the first time. Standing beneath it and looking up is a very different experience from seeing it in photographs.

From there, I headed toward Île de la Cité, the historic island in the Seine that sits at the heart of Paris. Walking around the island is like stepping through layers of the city’s history, with centuries-old buildings, narrow streets, and magnificent churches appearing around almost every corner.

One of the highlights was Sainte-Chapelle, famous for its spectacular stained-glass windows. The light filtering through the enormous medieval panels creates an atmosphere that is difficult to capture in photographs—the colors almost seem to surround you.

After so much sightseeing, it was time for something considerably less historic but equally important: French fries. A quick food stop offered the perfect excuse to slow down and enjoy one of those simple moments that often become part of the best travel memories.

Later, I continued walking through Paris toward Église de la Madeleine. Its enormous neoclassical columns give the church an appearance more reminiscent of an ancient Roman temple than a traditional Parisian church.

What I enjoyed most about this day was the variety. The Eiffel Tower, medieval Île de la Cité, the extraordinary glass of Sainte-Chapelle, a casual food stop, and the monumental Madeleine all offered completely different glimpses of Paris.

And that’s what makes exploring Paris on foot so rewarding. You can start with one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks and, a few hours later, find yourself standing in front of something centuries older—or simply sitting down with a plate of fries.
